Nurse called me today to tell me kiddo was sick and needed to be picked up from school.
She was using the wrong pronouns, so I tried modeling the correct ones, hoping she'd catch on, but she didn't.
Without really thinking I interrupted her: "I'm sorry, we're using he/him pronouns for [kiddo]." Nurse was like "oh, uh, ok."
Don't misgender my kid! This is the first time I've stood up like that, but it felt awesome.

(and medical professionals, I know that your computer system makes it hard for you because it is so damn binary re: gender, but please be open to the fact that a person's pronouns may not match the letter in your chart and LISTEN to the cues people are giving you. Kiddo believes the nurse wasn't being insensitive, she just didn't know, but she clearly wasn't fully listening or aware.)
