Lately, committing that I'm going to feed myself pretty much guarantees that I turn into a gremlin and ignore the concept of eating until I am forced to eat whatever crumbs and sauce packets I have on hand.
For a community, you *have* to ban early and ban often, and defederate early and often.
As an admin, it's your job to protect the ✨vibes✨ of your space, to promote community, and to remove elements that are toxic or harmful.
A service doesn't work the same way. It isn't attempting to create (or promote) a specific vibe, it's just *there*. You make of it what you will, find what you will, and (as an end user) block what you will.
Basically, my standard for moderating people on other instances is: if I think you are more likely to annoy someone on my instance than to add value (e.g., you reply to random strangers contentiously or to make low-value contributions like "I don't know what this thread is about"), I'm just going to suspend you.

Giving me life to suspend chuds lurking on the flagship instance.

CW's, use 'em folks. They're an established part of the culture here, and if you don't CW your CWables folk will unfollow/block. CW your stuff, yes even that stuff, even moreso if it's important to you that people boost it.

Google instead of letting me install Google pay and go through all of the steps to set it up on my phone and THEN tell me I can't use it, and jump through 50 hoops to find a list of supported phones so see if my phone is NOT on it, how about you use the power of computer programming to run that check and tell me up front?
I'm no computer rocket scientist but I bet you have sone smart cookies who could figure out how.
