US Internet for whomst?

RT @roblevine82@twitter.com

US Internet has permission from Minneapolis to lay fiber over the city...but they've obviously redlined the poorer areas of the city. This should be illegal. Can't tweet at my city councilor because for some reason Alondra Cano has blocked me!

Occasionally people say it isn't good strategy to talk about the racist role of zoning, and that it may lose potential supporters (🎻🎻🎻). NYT ran with this headline, why can't you?

This headline in today's print NY Times moves the Overton window on zoning a few miles toward yimby nytimes.com/2018/12/13/us/minn

City council is looking at creating a student-tailored affordable housing program to get around federal regulations that exclude students from qualifying for affordable housing.

Whose streets? @OurStreetsMpls@twitter.com
RT @StreetsblogUSA@twitter.com Minneapolis' new comprehensive plan:
#1. Eliminates minimum parking mandates
#2. Bans new gas stations and drive-throughs citywide
#3. Forbids auto-oriented land uses by Metro stations
#4. Discourages surface parking lots

Weird how the "environmental impact" lawsuit going on right now is aimed against policy guidelines (that will help when actual policy happens) instead companies and systems in the state actually producing negative impacts today.

RT @EricHolthaus@twitter.com BREAKING: Global carbon emissions have begun to accelerate upwards again in 2017 and 2018, after a three-year lull.

It must be said: We are making the worst problem we have ever created even worse—at an ever-faster rate.

This is madness. We are self-sabotaging our own planet. twitter.com/Peters_Glen/status

This piece is naming & shaming the "single-family zoning evangelists" who support these policies. Meanwhile in Minneapolis, we're attempting to put an end to this. Anyone surprised that the people behind the last minute lawsuit to block benefit from this rigged system?

RT @TheStranger@twitter.com Single-family zoning is a racist policy. That’s the biggest takeaway from Seattle Planning Commission’s latest report, a study that paints the racist effects of single-family zoning in stark detail. | via @leddder@twitter.com

Minneapolis, if you care about immigrant legal defense, read this thread. It has a thing you can do quick!
RT @karalynum@twitter.com Hey Minneapolis - did you know your city's 2019 budget originally slashed the immigrant legal defense fund from $75K to $40K? And the city council TENTATIVELY voted to restore funding to $75K? The deadline is tomorrow to let city council know you want that funding fully restored.

The harm may be intangible, but this lawsuit is a great exercise in climate denialism. While California burns, wealthy Southwest Minneapolis residents file a lawsuit seeking personal validation that their preferred anti-urban pro-sprawl policies are good for the planet.

RT @webster@twitter.com 3/ This appears to be another lawsuit where an arguably single-purpose entity spins up to slow or stop density, claiming the potential for environmental harm and need for impact review. However, the harm is a bit more intangible here because Minneapolis 2040 is just a guide.
