US Internet for whomst?
US Internet has permission from Minneapolis to lay fiber over the city...but they've obviously redlined the poorer areas of the city. This should be illegal. Can't tweet at my city councilor because for some reason Alondra Cano has blocked me!
Occasionally people say it isn't good strategy to talk about the racist role of zoning, and that it may lose potential supporters (🎻🎻🎻). NYT ran with this headline, why can't you?
This headline in today's print NY Times moves the Overton window on zoning a few miles toward yimby https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/13/us/minneapolis-single-family-zoning.html
.@email@example.com is crossing into war torn lands: will he arrive before Uptown suffers its umpteenth and final death?
RT @firstname.lastname@example.org @WedgeLIVE@twitter.com I'll be at Magers & Quinn on March 14. Really looking forward to it! @MoreNeighbors@twitter.com, @email@example.com
City council is looking at creating a student-tailored affordable housing program to get around federal regulations that exclude students from qualifying for affordable housing.
RT @firstname.lastname@example.org Under Minneapolis' zoning policy, new student housing projects would not have to include affordable units http://www.mndaily.com/article/2018/12/n-citys-latest-affordable-housing-policy-excludes-student-housing
There's a lot that needs to happen for the city to achieve the goals in the comp plan, but we benefit from all this coverage as a way of keeping our electeds accountable in the years to come. #mpls2040

Whose streets? @OurStreetsMpls@twitter.com
RT @StreetsblogUSA@twitter.com Minneapolis' new comprehensive plan:
#1. Eliminates minimum parking mandates
#2. Bans new gas stations and drive-throughs citywide
#3. Forbids auto-oriented land uses by Metro stations
#4. Discourages surface parking lots
Give this team some of your praise too! #mpls2040
RT @firstname.lastname@example.org A great big THANK YOU to the best planning staff in local government! Minneapolis CPED Long Range Planning! And to the City Council for voting 12-1 to forward the document to the Met Council for review.
So much to celebrate in 2018. Now's your chance to reconnect with all the people who helped make it happen! Mark your calendars for December 20th at 6:30 pm for a year-end member social and 2018 wrap-up!
Weird how the "environmental impact" lawsuit going on right now is aimed against policy guidelines (that will help when actual policy happens) instead companies and systems in the state actually producing negative impacts today. #mpls2040
RT @EricHolthaus@twitter.com BREAKING: Global carbon emissions have begun to accelerate upwards again in 2017 and 2018, after a three-year lull.
It must be said: We are making the worst problem we have ever created even worse—at an ever-faster rate.
This is madness. We are self-sabotaging our own planet. https://twitter.com/Peters_Glen/status/1070378956736684032
This piece is naming & shaming the "single-family zoning evangelists" who support these policies. Meanwhile in Minneapolis, we're attempting to put an end to this. Anyone surprised that the people behind the last minute lawsuit to block #mpls2040 benefit from this rigged system?
RT @TheStranger@twitter.com Single-family zoning is a racist policy. That’s the biggest takeaway from Seattle Planning Commission’s latest report, a study that paints the racist effects of single-family zoning in stark detail. | via @email@example.com

why do all the complaints about housing sound the same??

Minneapolis, if you care about immigrant legal defense, read this thread. It has a thing you can do quick!
RT @email@example.com Hey Minneapolis - did you know your city's 2019 budget originally slashed the immigrant legal defense fund from $75K to $40K? And the city council TENTATIVELY voted to restore funding to $75K? The deadline is tomorrow to let city council know you want that funding fully restored.
The harm may be intangible, but this lawsuit is a great exercise in climate denialism. While California burns, wealthy Southwest Minneapolis residents file a lawsuit seeking personal validation that their preferred anti-urban pro-sprawl policies are good for the planet. #mpls2040
RT @firstname.lastname@example.org 3/ This appears to be another lawsuit where an arguably single-purpose entity spins up to slow or stop density, claiming the potential for environmental harm and need for impact review. However, the harm is a bit more intangible here because Minneapolis 2040 is just a guide.

RT @email@example.com Hey nerds, it's my birthday. As a gift, one of you could tell me where I might be able to find Minneapolis zoning codes of yore: the 1924 one, and the 1963 one. Thx and stay warm! @StreetsMN@twitter.com
Let this be the inaugural example of #livingwhileNIMBY: believing that this is in any way a rational parallel to draw.
RT @WedgeLIVE@twitter.com Example of a newspaper editorial board taking a bold stand: "A candidate for San Luis Obispo mayor says ‘NIMBY’ is the ‘new N-word.’ He’s wrong"
