A year ago this weekend, I decided to start a YouTube, and I registered the Veronica Explains channel. I was looking for Linux creators who weren't dudes, and when I couldn't find many, I decided to jump in.
If you'd have told me a year later I'd have over 15k YouTube subs, and a growing PeerTube community, I wouldn't have believed it.
Thanks, all. <3
@vkc i can't believe it took me almost a year to find your channel. your videos are so great and remind me there are still cool people in the linux community!
@vkc omg! Congrats on 15k! ❤️
And yeah. YT is VERY dude heavy. It’s annoying. Glad to have another geek girl to watch 🙃
@vkc I work in fields related to technical training and I detect a lack of teenage girls. I don't know why, but after a certain age they disappear. I think one of the causes is the lack of female role models in the technological fields, of adult female techies to look up to or empathize with.
You certainly do a double good for the community.
@vkc 🥰 congratulations
@vkc congrats! 🎉
It's also disappointing re: the lack of people that aren't white dudes making Linux content on YouTube. I remember Nixie Pixel used to make good videos around a decade ago, but then she stopped due to health issues. ☹️
@vkc subbed
@vkc Glad to "discover" you here on Mastodon. Watched your latest video (I'm a Linux Mint user). Subbed!
@vkc !!!! proud of u!!
