I kind of want to read a Flannery O'Connor short story aloud at the table today and then make everyone present reflect on how God's grace is very often found in acts which annihilate the ego.

I'm sad that Flannery O'Connor never wrote a series of greeting cards. They would have been brutal.

Also, do you suppose O'Connor ever met Shirley Jackson? I would have loved to get just absolutely hammered with the two of them. I know O'Connor abstained and Jackson had addiction problems, but it's a fantasy, so everything's okay.

Here's something I found on Etsy.

Oh, Flannery. You were so great.

@yeahno omg yes. those were my two favorite authors as a young teen. (SURPRISING I KNOW)

@hfrazey If you haven't in a while, reread some of their stuff. Because HOLY SHIT, with a few decades of adulthood under one's belt, do those stories get a ton more meaningful and dark as the pits of hell.

@yeahno I cosplayed as Merricat from "We Have Always Lived in the Castle" from ages 12-14 (of course I didn't know that's what it was called at the time). I still have the tattered, underlined copy I carried with me. I reread it a while back, but haven't picked up Flannery in years.
